RESEARCH TOPICS
During sophomore year students in grade 10
research a variety of topics ranging from the moon to the Titanic. They implement
a number of tools and techniques in order to learn as much information as
possible about a particular topic and subtopics. The information in then integrated
into a specific format (i.e. poster, cartoon, short story, survey, game, song,
lesson, fable, play, mask, editorial cartoon, video, debate, bibliography,
panel discussion, drawing, 3-d representation, journal, collage, interview,
poem, essay, article, recipe, mosaic, review).
Over the years students have created memorable products. For example, Cynthia
Roque designed a fable in the form of a coloring book to teach about the use
of sun block. Cynthia researched the topic of cancer, specifically skin cancer.
Her fable was accompanied by illustrations that could be colored and also
her fable was written in Spanish and English. Lindsey Poulin created a board
game about cancer prevention. The local chapter of the American Cancer society
underwrote a grant for Lindsey to have her game published at a local print
shop. Over one hundred copies were produced and sent to local school libraries.
A Crosby student developed a brochure for Halloween phobics.
