Material World

 

 

Students in grades 9 and 10 study issues and topics from the curriculum based on the book The Material World. The Material World presents photographs and statistics of thirty families from around the world. Each family was photographed with their belongings in front of their dwelling. Also, they completed a questionnaire regarding their family life. Statistics for each country such as population, per capita income, etc. are also included. Among the many activities in this unit students must first research one country. They compare and contrast this country to other countries and the United States. They also look at their own possessions and draw conclusions as to what they reflect.
